Skylake Processors

Go to solution Solved by App4that,

Alright, I have a Haswell right now, so no real point in switching?

My bad, I clicked the wrong section under computer hardware!   :)  And I did follow my topic?

A 4790k will beat a 6600k, but a 6700k will beat the 4790k. This is on average of course and ignoring overclocking and the silicon lottery. Since you have a H97 board if you wanted to overclock then moving to Skylake is a good choice, it you just want the most performance per dollar get a 4790.

Hey guys,

I know my things about computer parts, but am also still a semi-noob.  Can someone tell me what a Skylake processor is?

If I'm correct, it's Intel's new generation processors... right?

Are they a good improvement?

First off, please follow your topics and put them in the right sub forum. This is for graphics cards.

That out of the way Skylake is just the name for Intel's new series of CPUs. There are some improvements but which Skylake to get or if you should get a Haswell is up to what you do with your PC.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Skylake - new name for new generation of Intel CPUs. They are slight improvement over previous Haswell but not enough that it would be worth it to switch if you have Haswell right now.

Alright, thanks.  Although a 6700k will beat the 4790k, is it a drastic difference?

It can be. Now a big part of the gain is the use of DDR4, not the CPU. But the performance boost is there none the less.

It's not a DRASTIC difference, it's minor. Both are great CPU's, either way, I would get a 5820k rather than the 6700k.
