Hey everyone,

I recently built my first gaming pc but I did not have enough money to get a windows license. I was wondering if I could transfer the operating system from my laptop to my new pc. My laptop is running windows 10 and it is not an OEM lisence. Unfortunately I do not have the lisence key for it. I just need to know how I can transfer windows from my laptop to my desktop.

Thanks heaps

Shaqtin

I thought you meant to get the whole os onto another drive.

move the boot drive to the new pc then select it as your boot drive in bios

depends on if you can get the (most likely) ssd out of the laptop or not. I had mac installed on an SSd and it worked fine when I moved it from a laptop to a full blown PC.

I am not sure that Iunderstand how to do that

on most Dell BIOS' you press 12 but for others you could press F5 F2 F12 Esc and I think I'm missing one, but you press one of them and say 1st boot priority to the Hard drive you plugged in (before the PC is turned on)

If you don't have key and its on laptop, it IS OEM. You would get key if you bought it as retail. Did it came with laptop? OEM. Did laptop have Win7/8/8.1 and you upgraded? OEM. Did you buy it from store with install media or just license key? Retail but then you'd also already have key.
