Depends on what you want to do.

I game on a 960 and it doesn't miss a beat. If you want the newest thing, get the 970 as it will probably last longer.

If you want it now though, get a 960. You won't notice a difference. I play all of my games on a 960 on highest graphics settings and haven't seen any lag whatsoever.

Should I get a Gtx 960 or should I suck it up and save for the extra money for the 970?

what games will you be playing? what is the rest of your build?

an r9 390 is a better choice than a 970 by the way

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Which brand of 960 do you want to go with? More importantly, the 2g or 4g model. I currently use the msi 960 4g, running all my games (fallout 4, battlefront, gta V, project cars, black ops 3 are some examples) pretty much maxed out at 1080p, with the lowest frames being in the 40s (for gta v, which actually isnt maxed out).

Anyways, if you don't mind waiting go for the 970, you will get more out of it in the future. But trust me, at 1080p the 960 will definitely not let you down! (the 4g variant at least)

MAIN RIG | AMD R7 1800x @ 4.0GHz [cooled by Corsair h110i] | Zotac 1070 founders | Corsair Dominator Platinum 2x8gb |
| ASUS crosshair IV hero | Samsung 960 evo m.2 | Seagate 1TB + WD blue 2TB| Corsair HX750i | Phanteks evlov atx TG |
LAPTOP | HP zbook Workstation | Intel i7-4710 HQ @ 2.5GHz | 8gb ram | NVIDIA Quadro k1100m | 250gb + 250gb Crucial SSDs |

how long would saving up for a 390 take, its a litle more then the 970 but way better. id say not to go with a 960 because of the bang for your buck but if it would take long to save up for something better then i guess its not bad

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

well I'm looking to play like fallout 4 and some of the newer games at at least medium

Fallout 4 is very poorly optimized so your gpu won't make much of a difference in performance - for medium a 960/380 is just fine (assuming 1080p). If you want ultra get a 390.

If you are getting a 960 make sure you get the 4gb version or else in game like GTA V and other games that use a lot of VRam and 2gb is not really "Future Proof"

If you are gonna save up for a 970 make sure you get one with a good cooler such as EVGA or Gigabyte.

If you want to go for AMD and get more performance for your money I would the 390 not the X just the regular 390

no difference? what are you talking about?

ther's a huge leap from 970 to 960

and about maxing out the games, how? either you have 720p screen, or you play at 40FPS, or you play LoL,CSGO

my 390(which is usually better than the 970) can't max out some games
