max number of screen on USB Type C (Apple laptop)

zyxep

Hi,

What is the current maximum of screens you can connect to the Macbook USB Type C ?

I would love to be able to connect 4 screens to a single laptop.

I know it sounds crazy :) and i am sometimes but i want to switch out my desktop to a Macbook Pro (I know i have to wait to new ones).

So that is why i ask in here, is it possible or do i need to do something crazy ?

even if you could, the igpu will probably not be able to push those pixels without some lag

Specs on the new macbook pros have not been released nor are they expected to any time soon. I think type C can do it, the question is wether or not apple will support it with the hardware/software. I've only ever been able to setup three with my 15" macbook pro, which has the highest possible specs.

I doubt a mpb will be able to do 4. Why do you want/need four?

Also: Dont post in General Discussion, post in something like Displays or Laptops. Thanks

I think the maximum it supports is two.

I can do 3 with my mbp, of course its the best specs you can get, but still.

CPU is usually around 140 F, and god only knows how the gpu is handling things...  ^_^

Yes. Without it, you would have extreme lag and issues. Go for the best GPU you can get

Agreed. Although the 750M in my MBP is dated (a little), it still is loads better than integrated. I run two 1080p displays off of it as well as the internal, and it does just fine. CPU temps dont go higher than 130 F, although I have no way (atm) to check gpu temps

Okay, thanks for all the reply's :) it makes a lot more sense to me now.

And for people who ask why i need 4 screens :)

I have 4 right now to my Desktop, and i use them all everyday.

It could probably be replaced by 3 widescreens but i can't go down in monitors.

I am totally in love with Lewis (Unbox Therapy) desk setup (i know he uses Mac Pro).

Yeah....I think we all admire Lou...

Have you ever thought about using a windows laptop? I bet some high powered ones could do 4 displays...if you arent set on mac osx

My old rMBP ran two 1080p screns in addition to its own just fine, and it was the base model with the Intel HD5000 graphics.. I would have tried more, but it only had two ports. Not sure on the limits of the Type C connector, although it is Thunderbolt 3 so you should be fine daisy-chaining a bunch together. Just don't plan on gaming on more than one monitor at a time  :P

Laptop: Asus GA502DU

RAM: 16GB DDR4 | CPU: Ryzen 3750H | GPU: GTX 1660ti
