Do you need a driver to connect to ethernet?

I really want to know because I built a PC and it won't connect to the ethernet cable i have plugged in.

You shouldn't.

Some motherboards can get the driver from windows and the rest need it manually installed. So if it doesn't connect it probably needs the drivers.

yes theres a disc that comes with your motherboard that has all the drivers you need

install thsoe

Usually no but sometimes yes, check the manufacturers site, download just the ethernet driver onto USB, install on new comp, go online and download the rest of the drivers

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, requires a driver.

 

Assuming you're installing Windows, you should really follow my guide.

Just built my pc (i have a gigabyte Z170X-UD3) i needed to install drivers to do just that. The driver you are looking for is the Realtek lan driver
