I'm remaking this build log since the last one got changed so many times, started out air cooling, changed to aio, color scheme and parts changed and the threat got too convoluted with old pictures and what not. So I hope the mods don't mind.

Green - Have

Yellow - Waiting/Shipping

Red - Do not have yet

Case: EVGA Hadron Air

Motherboard: EVGA z97 Stinger

CPU: Intel i7 4770k (good chip, good OC)

GPU: ???

Storage: Adata Premiere M.2 Drive ??

PSU: Evga 500w Gold

Cooling: Corsair H60,  Noctua NF-P12, Noctua NF-B9

I originally had this build semi-finished - without a GPU- however, cooling and motherboard decided to die on me. I had an asrock z97e itx motherboard, however it went into a boot loop and died. Luckily I was able to get a refund. I then was on the hunt for the hard to find last gen z97 itx boards for a reasonable price. I wanted an asus board but the cheapest I found it was for 200-300 dollars, which is absurd. I went for an EVGA stinger from Fry's. Unfortunately, they are back ordered and I am crossing my fingers.

Cooling in this case is interesting, I had to cut down corners of the NF-P12 so it would fit, an NF-F12 wouldn't fit with the rubber sound dampeners, nor would I feel good cutting up a new NF-F12, thus I went with a used NF-P12. I originally was going to use a coolermaster TX3 with Noctuas in push pull, however, a brand new h60 came up on sale for $30usd. While it was brand new, and functioned well, the pump was loud. thus I had to make an adapter to reduce the voltage to around 90%. I went with a 1N4001 resistor, as others have. Sleeved using some para cord, which was strangely meditative... sleeve the PSU in the future.. Furthermore, the tubing broke due to the tight bends between the cpu socket and the radiator mounting point, So new tubing was added and new fluid was used. As for the NF-B9, I had to make an adapter with a sheet of aluminum.

The CPU I got used for $200 usd, It overclocks like a champ, with a better cooler I was able to get 4.8 @1.32. Unfortunately, I will not be running it at 4.8 as heat is a large issue in such a small case, even without a GPU. Before the AsRock board decided to die on me, I figured 4.5 or 4.4 would be a right balance between heat and acoustics- while leaving some wiggle room for a GPU.

Sound is a HUGE thing for me, so I may switch out to air cooling in the future.

Nice build. What's your budget for the GPU?

tubing broke, I originally had a grey theme, i'll probably put it back to black... but you can't see the grey or the brown from the fans when it is in the case.

Not sure yet, I may just put my 960 in it when I get a new gpu (waiting for the new releases)

Yeah I would recommend waiting for the new line of GPUs

yeah, unless I get a ridiculous deal on a 290, that is what I will do, especially heat.

So i've been reading mixed answers on the M.2 expandability of the wifi-less Stinger motherboard, If anyone has information, please let me know.

Also if the H60 doesn't adequatly cool, may have some modding in the future

1. HDD cage removal

2. paint the interior of the side panel that shows

3. either cut the top of the case off, make a 2x120mm fan bracket that is offset away from the motherboard

4. 240 aio.

due to popular demand of the great number of 1 person, the rad has been sanded down and had a light spray of matte black. Unfortunately, the black paint i had was about 5 years old and was chunky even with 5 mins of shaking. Notwithstanding the chunkiness of the black rad, you can't see the thing when the side panel is on.

With that said I have reached an impasse, I would like to try to mount the rad closer to the side as to avoid blocking off the Ram (it was a pain to get at. I have double sided tape... things to come!

Also thinking about a new fan depending on the performance of the NF-P12.

got this for 50 bucks, not the best price but certainly not the worst

Just in case the the board's supposed M.2 isn't there or is being used for wifi or not compatible... and I wanted the m.2 in my main system...
