I think this goes here. I was going to put it in peripherals but I guess I have to venture in here.

I need a gaming headset, and I'm thinking about picking one up now since there are some pretty good deals to be had.

The three I'm currently looking at are:

  • Hyper X Cloud II $100
  • Hyper X Cloud II with Rainbow Six Siege $135
I'd sell the game, and make it cheaper. Though I don't know how much games sell for.
  • Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma $70

Reasons:

These are the three I can get the best deal on.

I watched a quick review Linus did on the Chroma's and they sounded like ass. However I have a friend that has a pair and he says they sound perfectly fine. Does anyone here have a pair and can chime in with their experience?

Anyone have any better suggestions? I'm in Canada, and honestly don't want to pay a great deal for these.

If there's one that can go between the Xbox One and PC with ease, it's much more intriguing to me. I haven't looked into that regarding the Kraken, though I think it was USB?

I recommend the Superlux 681 EVOs, now that I've had my hands on them.

The mic on the Clouds aren't that great anyways, so with the money you're saving you can get a Zalman clip-on mic and it'll be way better.

Just get the Cloud 1 or Core.

***Instant Savings!!!*** :D B)

The Cloud is the same price ;)

The Core is cheaper though, I might have to take a look into those.

Interesting read, but I don't think they'll really work for me. They're only $10 less, have extra wires going everywhere, can't be used with a console...

I'm also not a huge fan of open headphones :)

DON'T GET RAZER okay now that we cleared that, Cloud is way better than razer shit headset, but if you whant the best sound for your money get headphones not headsets, and if you need a mic get a mod mic 4.0.

Headphone + Mic > Cloud 1 > Cloud 2 > Rest of every Gaming headset on the market > Razer Kraken

Cloud 2 just has a useless USB Card, that isnt really better than some Onbaords. stick to Cloud 1, and maybe buy a Xonar DGX.

Razer Kraken is the biggest piece of Shit you can put on your ears. The Soundquality is the worst i've ever seen. Even my super old (and also really bad) Creative Fatal1ty for 27 Bucks sounded better.

Kraken has SUCH a bloated bass with such an unbelievable bad quality, that its an Insult for every Subwoofer in the world, to call this muddy something "bass", that comes out of the Kraken.

Not good for gaming or Music, since that bloated bass (and almost no mids/treble) will hide so many details, everything just sounds unnatural.

Haha, thanks guys for saving me from the horridness that's apparently Razer!

I think I'll likely get the Hyper X Cloud Core. It's on sale for $50 with free shipping right now.

Will avoid! Really not interested in a two piece set up though. The amount of time I'll be spending with them isn't worth the extra cost.

Nah, I'd just use onboard audio. If I really need I have a pretty expensive sound card I can throw in the PC. Might do that once I get it if needed but I doubt it will be.

Haha, your hate definitely turned me off Razer, and the Cloud Core is apparently the Cloud 1 without all the accessories which is perfect.

If you have a good sound card, why not just use it? So long as it's not an Audigy or older I'd say use it over the onboard.

Better option would be getting HyperX Cloud 1 with Asus Xonar DGX sound card, because this external 7.1 sound card in Cloud II is bad.

That sound card is so bad tough. He should just get the cloud II and use them without the usb sound card.

Why would he waste $30 over the Cloud or Cloud Core to get the USB dongle to not use it?

The USB SHIT they send with it IS SHIT okay? and he is not looking at the first cloud "core" as you call it. And I did not say he should buy that crappy sound card.

  1. Calm down
  2. That sound card is perfectly adequate, on par with decent on-board audio
  3. The Cloud Core is a different product than the original Cloud
  4. The Cloud II is over-valued, largely because of the shitty dongle

A tip for OP: try the headsets before you buy them, if you buy a headset and if you don't like the headset, then you just waisted your money.
