Would be no point. Becuase

1) Laptop mobos are tiny and packed, even compared to m-ITX.

2) CPU support is none or limited.

2) Would be scrapyard style project since cooling is limited to laptop heatsinks.

3) GPU support would be very limited unless you can use those external docks.

4) PSU would just be nightmare and too techie for LMG (who already have trouble with their builds).

5) The other way around idea (suitcase PC) is more interesting.

Take a laptop for example a razor and manage to make it a desktop pc

For what purpose?

You're taking what's good about a laptop (portability) and converting it to make it useless. Despite the fact that mounting of the laptop hardware would be a challenge, there's no point, because you can find hardware that performs much better for cheaper on the desktop platform.

Whats the purpose of liquid cooling a laptop then?

  1. That was done by a sole manufacturer, something no one expected (or even asked for)
  2. I personally don't see the purpose in it, looks like it could be clunky
  3. Laptops are a confined space and it could be useful for dissipating the heat much more quickly

How does your question even remotely relate to what OP is requesting?

You know, I actually know someone from another forum (who used to be a member here as well, but I think he doesn't post anymore) who took apart their M17X and stuffed everything into a tower case and touted it off like they were proud of their decision.

 

Some "mods" just shouldn't be done.

 

The way he talked about it was so cringe omg.

On a similar note though, are DIY laptop builds even a thing? I always thought it would be cool to assemble your own laptop, but I don't know enough to comment on the viability/practicality of such a thing.

 

I brought this idea up on the forums before (I think in Mobile Devices), it was almost universally rejected :/

 

apparently everyone believes that manufacturers/developers won't go through the effort to create and sell standard custom laptop components like they do with tower pcs...
