Would go for the R9 390. Sapphire, MSI, Powercolor and XFX are all solid variants.

600-650W PSU would be sufficient.

390. No questions.

please clarify.

my opinion in short:

- R9 390 if going for performance per dollar, or if you play vram hogging programming disasters.

- GTX970 if you need parts of the nvidia ecosystem

(gamestream - i love using it with my raspberry pi, or specific settings that arent quite as easy on the amd side like running a monitor at 59.7 Hz),

if your local power bill is insane (i got a 970 a year ago, and by now its paid itself off entirely in power usage difference between R9 390 and GTX970, i'm an extreme case tho),

or if you want to have a smooth upgrade experience, since you have nvidia drivers, it'll literally be "turn pc off, take out old card, put in new card, turn pc on"

I expected you to answer it for the OP. Good job.

yeah IMO the only benefit of the 390 is performance per dollar

which is what 99% of gamers care about most

what most people dont understand is that not everyone is a gamer, and not everyone has performance per dollar as top priority

no, but good luck figuring out drivers, it tends to be a bit messy from time to time.

usually the process of "uninstall old drivers, turn off machine, remove old card, add new card, turn on machine, install new drivers, reboot" should work.

well, talking performance per dollar, refer to all my rants about belgian power literally costing more than a diesel generator on white diesel.
