Is 12gb overkill for gaming?

I plan on buying more memory for my computer and I am thinking about getting an 8gb stick. I cant find the memory that is in my computer currently so I was planning on buying this - https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/kingston-memory-hx318c10fb8 My main question is, is 12gb overkill for gaming? I dont do any 3d modeling or rendering only gaming and schoolwork. My second question is this, would this be compaitible with the stuff that currently in my computer - https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/kingston-memory-hx318c10fb4 Memory that is in my computer - http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=9757480 Thanks in advance and rest of my specs are in my sig. :D

I don't think it's overkill, if anything it'll prevent you from having to upgrade in the future

Do you actually have 4gb of ddr3 in your system right now? Because I can send you a 2x4gb kit of 1333mhz for free if you want it

Nah, I plan to uprgade to 2 4GB sticks of ram in a new build soon.

Besides, the ram I have is so slow that it would slow the other one badly. Also, with the graphics card and CPU I have, there is no program or game that could run fast enough to take advantage of extra RAM.

Thanks for the offer, though! :D

I  have GameServer`s And VOIP servers the only price is that you have fun on them.
