Choosing a cpu

My 3 choices for a potential cpu are as follows:

*AMD Athlon X4 860K (70$)

*AMD A10-7870K (130$)

*Intel Core i5 4460 (175$)

Budget is definitely a concern for me, so I'm hesitant to go with the i5, especially since the A10 isn't too much worse (http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4460-vs-AMD-A10-7870K) (I know i shouldn't compare 2 different brands, but this is just preliminary) Additionally, I've seen a benchmark (cant remember where) that showed the X4 performing better in gaming than the A10...Can you guys help me sort this out? What are your recommendations? Do you recommend anything different*?

*(I need 4 cores)

CPUBoss is a horrible way of comparing CPUs. Look at actual reviews of the processors.

I agree with Dan, if the budget isn't a big concern I'd go with the i5.

If it's GTA 5 that you need the 4 cores for, I'd say go with the i5. Even if you can get an older generation i5 for cheaper it'd be good.

Almost as cool as my temps

i have an i5 3450 and it is still keeping up with stuff today.  cant really go wrong with an i5, but the athlon is good too.  My mom still has a single core athlon 64 and its been a trooper for the last like 6 years.  still runs her 1 game today

Please, don't use CPUBoss.

With that out of the way, do you have a particular budget? If no, i5.

The i5 is pretty much the highest I can go, topping by build at at 800$

Honestly, because I can. LAN parties are fun as well :)

Yeah... I'd be pushing for that i5 if I could make the budget go the distance. The Athlon is a great budget machine, but if you're looking to play the next AAA titles it's not going to be a great experience.
