Do you already have the GPU?

Ultra wide gaming isn't worth it in most places because you can buy a 1440p display for the same price, it might be worth it if you had an AMD card, because then there's a 21:9 Free-sync IPS display at the same price as 1440p displays

but to answer your question, the 970/390(more so the 390) are 1440p cards, so ya, it'll be fine rendering a bit less pixels than that

It'll be a struggle with the 970 but doable.

Don't get the 25" version, if you're looking at 21:9 monitors.

Your card should do fine. Remember, you're not going to get over 60fps anyway, so you're not really aiming that high.
