 (bad single core performance)

I think the highest IPC is a i7 6700k overclocked..

Your only 1 generation before.

Unless you start talking about non consumer grade.. its horrible..

*quantom computing*

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Not "bad." Marginally slower per-core than an i7-6700K and on par with an i7-4790K when overclocked to the same frequency. These are all extremely high-end CPUs and most games are not sensitive enough to CPU performance to actually show a meaningful difference between them. If it's a good enough deal, get the 5820K.

LOOOOOOOL it has basically the same IPC as i7-4790k and can overclock up to 4.8ghz with good cooling, it's like you took the 4790k and added an equally clocked i3 to it to increase its power basically and merged it into one CPU

It's faster than 6700k and cheaper as for today.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

It destroys every game you can throw at it today, and will continue to do so for probably the next 5 years.

No one says it has bad single core performance. It's a bit behind a 4790k when 4 or less cores are used, a bit. It is a great cpu. If all you do is game then I'd get a cheaper i7, either skylake or Haswell, what ever is cheapest (including mobo and ram prices).

If you do things that will make use of the extra cores, then go for the 5820k, it's gaming performance is as good as any other i7, more or less.

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

yes, i only game on my PC more or less

check the post above you, and you'll notice why i don't want to go for 4790k/6700k

Then go for it if it is the cheapest option. It will be very good for gaming, not quite as good as a 4 core i7 with a higher clockspeed in done games, but the difference won't be noticeable at all.
