Windows 8.1

You will need your product key in order to activate it again. I don't think you'll need to purchase a new one.

I have the product key. I just cant afford to buy a new one for a couple of weeks if this one doesn't work.

You don't need new key. Only mobo change would need new key. And then only if current was OEM key.
