Hey all! I am currently in the market for a new headphone and microphone set and I wanted some suggestions. In the past I used the standard gaming headsets (Razer stuff generally) and I want to advance beyond that. Originally I was looking at the Logitech Artemis 633/933 but then I decided against that as I thought I could get a better quality by going with a separate pair of headphones and microphone.

I use my headphones for gaming, listening to music, and audio editing for video production... so in other words, a wide variety of tasks. I've never had any open headphones before, all of the ones I've used have been closed, so I'm thinking I want to stick with that mainly for the reason of noise isolation. For the time being, and most likely for the upcoming future, I live in a dorm with a roommate. I don't want to hear him and I don't really want him to have to listen to what I'm hearing.

For microphones I would want something that could be on my desk, not really right in front of my face but towards the side. Right now I'm thinking of the Blue Yeti Blackout as that had decent quality from Linus' video on them, although I'm open to other opinions.

As for budget I'm looking at around ~$200 USD. I could go to a max of $250 for the both of them though.

I have a Beyerdynamic DT990. It is very comfortable and very good for gaming/music listnening and movies. The trebles are very good but you might have a problem with it because it's opened back (but that's why it is so good at gaming).

But if you really want a closed back headphone than you can consider the Beyerdynamic DT770. As I heard it's bass is good.

As for microphone I have no idea, because I am not really into it. I dont really need to speak so often.

At that budget I would rather get a decent set of open headphones and a decent set of closed.  They have different sound signatures and different and serve different purposes, having a choice gives you a lot of versatility.

The SHP9500 and V-Moda Boompro mic go together like peanut butter and jelly.  My CAD U37 USB mic has served me well, and during my research videos made with that tended to sound better than the similar priced Snowball.  The very best gaming headphones I have are the ATH-AD500x, any in that line will sound really good.  If you must do closed then the Takstar Pro 80/NVX XPT100/Hyperx Clouds are really good choices.
