My friend needs two computers so he and his dad can play FF14 (along with some other games too) together. The budget is $400 for each computer. He says he already has monitors, peripherals, and operating systems. I need help finding the best part list for a $400 build. I don't think it's a really strict budget so if the optimal part list ends up being a little more then $400 then it should be fine. Currency is USD if anyone was wondering.

Thanks

ALL CREDIT GOES TO @Amazingasian for the original list which I made just shy of $400 (I just made the board have USB 3.0 headers and made the card a little cheaper). If you can go a little over, go with his list.

Just wondering, why would it be better to use that Intel duel core rather then a quad core processor like the Athlon X4 860k?

add another $140 for this for the second gpu, and you have pretty much my last recommendation, but with @TheRandomness and his virtualization idea.

well, to be honest i went for the i3 because my first choice was an i5 4460, but dropped it down to i3 for the price.

the game's cpu requirements are core2duo for minimum, or core i5 for recommended, so i'm not all too sure about its multi-threaded goodness either.

Hmmm.... Do AMD CPUs support virtualisation? Because you're going to need 3 GPUs to have it. One for the main thingy (iGPU), and one for each user.

Better in single-threaded applications, like most games.

Also your upgrade path is much wider, you are very limited on the FM2+ platform

Buut... There's 2 end users so you need another GPU.

thats why at the end of my post it says "add another $140 to this for the second gpu"

sadly pcpp doesnt allow me to drop a second nvidia gpu in a non-sli motherboard, but since you wont be sli-ing you dont need an sli board for it in this case.
