So, I'm thinking about building a 2004-2005 spec PC into a modern case.

I could research into it myself, but I feel it would be more meaningful if the community here gave some suggestions!

Needed:

PSU

CPU

CPU cooler

Case

Fans

Sound Card

GPU/GPU's

Mobo

RAM

Whatever else anyone can think of to add

Certainties:

OS: Windows XP Media Center Edition

Quick question, why do you need a 12 year old PC? Even if people posted suggestions here, there is a high chance you won't be able to find most of those parts since they are not produced anymore, you'll have to go 2nd hand.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

I didn't think this would be asked, but here's my answer:

Yes, I intend to buy second hand parts - (except case, fans, psu)

And why I need a 12 year old PC: Of course I  don't 'need' one, it's just a hobby project.

Yes, pretty much a more thoroughly thought out 2004-5 version of that in a classy, modern case.

Well, that much is obvious.

As for why one would need a 12 year old PC, not all games from that era seem to work too well on new PCs. Doom 3, for instance, essentially refuses to run on anything newer than Windows XP (or Vista, not sure which). You could get the BFG Edition for that game (like I did), but purists generally agree that it messes with the fundamentals of the game.
