So for my new build that I am currently saving money for. I have been debating what I should get for the OS. Should I go with 8.1 which I have been using for the last 3 years on a laptop and desktop or should I go with 10 since its new and "better" than 8. I really like 8 as its just what I'm use to now but if 10 is better and worth the hassle of learning it and dealing with it. Also correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't 10 still have a good amount of problems with it?

Windows 10 is the latest and greatest. Beside MS spying on you they have made improvements. Plus its free for any one on Windows 7 and 8.1. My only complaint is the spyware installed that sends crap loads of data to Microsoft. Lucky for us, our pal Barnecleus found Spybot Anti Beacon, from the guys who do Spybot Search and Destroy that turns of all the data collection.

  1. First of all it seems its a little faster on boot up.
  2. Windows Update is much better. You can schedule when restarts happen, down to day and time.
  3. The notification menu is actually useful.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

They have actually backported the spying to Windows 7 and 8.1. Just get the more up to date OS!

The data collection is an optional update in Windows 7 and 8.1. However, if a person has automatically download recommend updates enabled, then they will be automatically installed on to a person's machine. However, those update can also be uninstalled in Windows 7 and 8.1, and the script that I link to in my signature does just that.

"2. Windows Update is much better. You can schedule when restarts happen, down to day and time."

I have no big opinion between Windows 8.1 and 10, but is Windows Update not configurable in Windows 8.1? In Windows 7, a person can choose how often to look for updates, exactly when to look for them, whether to download them or just find them, and whether to download and install them vs just download them, or just find them.

Windows 10 just gives a person the choice of when to restart once updates are installed, and to defer updates for a set 2 month period - in Windows 7, a person can or can not search for and install updates according to their complete preference.
