Using Aftermarket Cooler can make your CPU run cooler which is good.

Get a good and cheap cooler like Hyper 212 evo from Cooler Master. And make sure it fits in your case before buying.

pretty much any decent CPU cooler should be fine. Just make sure your cooler of choice has mounting for mpga478, I'm sure the 212 doesnt. Zip ties may be your best bet.

Cooler Master Hyper T2, I use it on my Q6600 and that thing is quiet and cool. Right now is about $12 on Amazon and I confirm it works with LGA 775. :)

So I am rebuilding an old PC I build back in '05 and am wondering if I can use any CPU cooler or if I can use an aftermarket one. Ive been out of the building game for a while now! Abit IC7 motherboard

Depends if it's a socket 478 or a socket 775. New socket 478 coolers are impossible to find/don't exist. 775 compatible coolers are still on the market though.

Look around on ebay. Maybe you will find a socket 478 cooler.

Or LGA775 depending if you got a newer one.

Edit: You have a socket 478 motherboard, which finding an aftermarket cooler will and is extremely hard to find. Good luck.

I thought I had some money... Oh wait... I spent it all ;(
