corsair 650W enough for gigabyte gtx 980 ?

thatll work just fine with most processors

i plan on going for a i7 4790k if that matters

No problem, even 550W is enough! Go for 750W-700W if you plan to go SLI.

I do not plan on "sling" and it does say 600w minimum; I'd rather not go under that

Yes, I have 2 980s running off a 750W PSU. 650W will do a single 980 easy.

im pretty sure asus strix for examples requires less than the oc-ed or xtreme gigabyte. what brand do you have ? and what kind of power supply

Eh, Guru3D did a test of 3 980s in SLI and it hit 589W so you'd be fine with some overclocking on two 980s on a 600W.

I have 2 reference cards overclocked to about 1400mhz, my 4790k is at 4.4GHz and it's all taken care of easily by a Corsair AX750
