I just got a new 4k monitor that I mainly use for productivity but also want to use it for gaming. I have a gtx 960 2gb and that has served me well this past year at 1080p but I'm wanting to upgrade.

I have run the numbers and it would cost me:

~$180 to get a second used gtx 960 for SLI

~$70 to trade in for a used R9 290x

I'd like to play at 4k without all of the eye-candy
Example: witcher 3 4k on medium-high

If u can stand 30fps, the 290 will fare better. Which model though?
