Hey guys,

So I'm trying to install windows from a usb drive on an htpc i just built with an amd apu, but after the installation is complete the screen totally glitches out. When it boots up the windows logo appears and everything is clear, but once i get into windows it explodes. I have no clue whats causing it to stop working as soon as i get into windows.. Any ideas, driver problem maybe?

That looks like a dead GPU to me. The fact that you're using an APU makes this a little odd. Try reseating your RAM, from what I know APUs use the normal RAM instead of dedicated VRAM.

thats kinda what i was thinking but i mean it kinda works, like in the bios everything is fine and during bootup. also before i put windows on it i had ubuntu preinstalled on the same hard drive from a previous machine and it would kinda glitch out the same way during boot up, but after i got to ubuntu the screen was fine. (except that ubuntu would kinda freeze, but i have a feeling thats unrelated)

idk man, i was using the entire setup before in my main pc, but i got a new skylake cpu to replace it. but before i replaced it everything was working fine, granted i never used the igpu, i always had it paired with a dedicated graphics card.

I don't find this to be that surprising because after about a year of use the igpu in my friend's A10 5800K started to artifact constantly, but the CPU portion still works fine. Odds are it was just a dud the entire time. If the APU is still under warranty I'd try to RMA it. Otherwise I'd just get a dedicated graphics card because for the cost of a whole new APU you could get a much better GPU.
