I currently have two hard drives in RAID 1, configured through Windows, and had a random thought whilst watching Linus's RAID setup guide. Is configuring RAID in Windows something you shouldn't do?

I googled for a bit, but didn't find much useful information. Thoughts?

You can get quite a large array that works just fine using software that you can download, just ask @looney who has quite a large capacity RAID array going through a software solution

Then I'm afraid I don't understand... As far as I'm aware windows, at least windows 7, doesn't have any RAID support. Are you referring to the onboard RAID card on some motherboards?

Here's a tutorial brah: http://www.overclockers.com/setting-up-os-raid-with-windows-7-ultimate/

Does the Storage Solutions subforum always work in reverse?

Wouldn't know, I'm not a storage solution expert... Did you rename this topic while I was gone? Now it's called motherboard vs windows. I would trust the hardware solution, the onboard intel raid card over the windows solution because windows isn't as reliable. I couldn't tell you how many reinstalls of operating systems I've had to do

EDIT: I imagine that the widows based solution is worse than a third party software solution, but works in much the same way with the same consequences, pro's and cons. If a third party software solution is fine, then the Windows based solution should be equally fine

No, I did not rename the thread title.

I am looking for a concrete answer - I can make guesses myself - otherwise this thread can die in the mists of time for all I care.
