I'm still on the fence about a KMAC2 build I've been offered, It's going to cost me at least 500USD to have everything done......I don't know about you guys, but that's a whole  lotta money for a KB,,,,,,even if it's a KMAC2.

Actually, I'm more focused on getting a Topre 87U because I love the 103UB-55G I have right now, besides, I've arranged for and will be getting a set of 104 yellow Topre key caps, so a 2nd Topre would be great. I like the Cherry switch KB's I have, but the typing and gaming experience I have with the Topre is spoiling me, So I've made up my mind that a TKL model would be very nice, Besides, when I replace the stock key caps with the yellow ones, it's going to look very nice indeed.

 

BTW, I'd originally started this mech KB journey with the intention of getting one for each of my three rigs, I now have:

This is my filco yellow edition with hazard keyset, and today I dared myself to paint the gask mask eye yellow to match the theme with oil paint

It turns out not bad

seems like the hazard set and filco stock yellow caps has some color difference

Im waiting for Tai Hao set to come, already paid for the GB so that I can match the yellow

That's why I'd gotten the DK9008 Blue, I wouldn't mind experimenting on that KB, perhaps paint it and such, but I'd have to wait till I have the key caps in hand before deciding. The yellow Topre key caps that I have reserved looks to be very similar shade of yellow like your alpha-numeric keys. It'd look quite similar to yours actually, other than those nifty hazard key caps. Perhaps I ought to drop this KMAC2 idea and hunt down some very nice Topre key caps for my KBs. It's a certainty that I'll get the 87U, it's the waiting that will kill me as there are no stock available now, ETA for new stock is sometime in September I believe. Still, Rome wasn't built in a day, so I guess a little waiting won't hurt.

BTW, I'm just a Padawan, your the Master as you've cut your teeth by modding that CM KB, I've yet to do something like that. That's why I'd gotten a used DK9008 for the Miami key caps, I'd not be afraid to experiment a little, break cherry in a way. :o

HHKB's awesome, especially the Professional2, it uses Topre switch which I've fallen in love with. I love the 55g force on my 103UB-55G, typing is such a pleasure with it. You have a Model M, imagine a smooth and quiet buckling spring and that's what a Topre switch feels like....to me anyway. That's why I ain't too concern about having a KMAC2, it's about the typing experience for me, heck, I'd powered off my 2nd rig and am on my main rig simply because I feel like typing on my Topre. Those Hazard key caps are awfully tempting, but I'd prefer that they fit my Topre instead. :ph34r:  Anyway, I'm stoked, when the Miami key caps arrives, I'm going to ask you for some advice, so please be prepared. ;)

 

As for the Miami GB, here's the link to GH, it's all sort of pink and bluish green, but I'm confortable enough with my manhood to get 'em..... :P  :D

how difficult do you think it would be if i had red at home and say blue's at work? do you think it will be weird changing each day?

For your home use, either for gaming and typing, you can consider Brown, it's tactile like the Blue, but w/o that annoying (to some, like your significant other) click. You can also consider Black for home use, I'm typing on a Filco MJ NINJA Black and I have much less typos than I would with Red. Best for you to try these switches out yourself and see which would suit you for home and office use.

 

With regards to adjusting between Blue and Red, again, there's no real issue other than your making more typos with Red as it's linear and light, For home use, Brown or Black would be good.....just bear in mind that Blue require 50g force to actuate while Black requires 60g force. Again, I must emphasize that I have no real preference when it comes to switches, I seem to do pretty well with any. Hence, I have no problem typing on and gaming with Black and Blue (2nd and 3rd rig), as well as with my Topre Realforce KB which has a 55g 'switch' on my main system in sig.

Just realized I'm spending a crapload of money on key caps......I have a set of yellow, a set of blue Topre key caps and a set of replacement Filco key caps on the way. Have already paid for my Miami key caps......man, that's about 370 bucks right there. :blink:  Just did the numbers after finalizing the Topre and Filco key caps. And here I was thinking mechanical KB's would be a cheap diversion from vid cards..... :wacko:

Yea keyboards are a hobby like any. But once you go on GH you need to either hide your wallet or take it like a man and be broke all the time because you are always ordering the next latest keyboard thing.

This seems odd to me since red is just a lighter black. (in my opinion too light)

Just got my blue Topre key caps, replaced all but the space bar as my 103 key model has a longer space bar than the standard 104 key KB. Anyway, the biue caps are dye-sublimated PBT key caps, the legends contrast very nicely with the blue caps and look very sharp actually.

One thing I have to say, the Topre sey caps are as easy to swap out as Cherry key caps, plus when you plug in the key cap, there's an unmistakable 'click' when the key cap pop securely in place. I can't wait for the set of yellow Topre key caps I'd be getting this Sunday.

If its an unbuilt KMAC2 I could easily do what ever yo wanted on it for you. If its already built rebuilding it isnt all that hard either.

changing switches is easy though I would recommend probably browns instead of the reds so you at least have some tactility at home. The other thing to think about is if blues would be too loud for work. Many works dont care bur some REALLY care from some stories I head on GH.

Which is sad that this is the case because thats the original cherry switch. Everyone making red the "gamer" switch has made people not want it and thus companies to less the keyboards made with them.

Personally I really dont like Reds, they are way to light for me, I make alot of typos while my fingers are just resting, but blacks on the other hand is actually my second favorite after blues (atleast from the four main switches)
