Is it worth it for picture editing and coding?

 

Also completely disregard the fact that is a Mac

I like my mac pro but the 1,1 doesn't support true 64-bit os so your stuck on lion...

 

 

plus its a terrible machine nowadays for encoding and any serious editing

Theres certain thing i NEED a Mac for.... I do picture and movie editing for my school "Still in High School" and i need something at home to work on. All i need is iMovie and iPhoto. Also i would like to be able to upgrade to OS X Mavericks. Any Mac is fine, Air, Mac Pro, Macbook, Mini, iMac Any mac but i NEED one

Nope, get the Mac pro. The Mac mini is nowhere near as powerful. Although the Mac Pro consumes a lot of power, Its up to you. That Mac pro is better than a 3570k and a GTX 760, so it is excellent value.

The Mac mini is much worse. Buy the Mac Pro if you can, IG you don't like it, sell it on for like $1000, that's what its worth.

you say photo and video editing but what software are you considering because adobe software does run on windows so does sony vegas. You can build a faster pc for that money and continue to upgrade it in the future. Think about it 2 x dual core is just 2.66Ghz quad core (with less compatiblity with multitasking). A 3570K is a 3.4Ghz quad core which will be faster and the 3570K can be overclocked. putting you money into a PC is a longer lasting investment then putting it into a 6 yr old Mac

I'm not a Mac person; I don't know what Maverick is, but what I do know is that it is a pretty capable machine, and it should fun any intel-based OSX release/programme

For the price it isn't terrible, I'd like to see the exact CPU's used and I assume you meant 16GB of ram not 15GB (1x8, 1x4, 1x2, 1x1 anyone??)

Sell it for $1000 regardless of the HDD. Macs don't depreciate fast. If you are not satisfied with it in any way, sell it. But the consensus of my advice is buy it now, it is the offer of the century

A 5770 is a pretty nice part. Capable in OpenCL and in games in general. The numbering scheme for their parts is different now... A 5770 was like a 7950 is today.

I don't see why it wouldn't. All the updates are are little tweaks, not core overhauls.
