i7, because it isn't manly unless you're going balls to the wall.

 

EDIT: Ooops, I so read that wrong....I will stand by my point however, with a caveat. if you're playing mainly indie games and older titles, the i5 is probably the better chip as the price increase of buying the i7 isn't justified by the increase in performance. If however you're playing modern AAA titles more often, they're becoming multi-core optimised...After that it's your choice.

Really any modern i5 is perfect for gaming and unless you're streaming / doing multi media production you don't really need an i7.

Which is better suited for mainly gaming. The I5-4690K or the I7-4790K.

You should add a "it depends option" as most games don't benefit from hyper threading so i5 in that case,

But if you game and sometimes edit and render content you most certainly will benefit from hyper threading so i7 in that case,

But since you said mainly gaming i would go for a i5.
