PC Underperforming! Why?

Robertsson

Hello people!

My current PC is a i7-4790 Overclocked @4ghz, A 850W PSU, A 4GB 970 STRIX, 16GB of Corsair Vengence RAM, 2TB of memory (Just old, don't know what company) and a Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard.

By the sounds of it this is a pretty beastly PC, or a decent PC that SHOULD be able to run most games very well on good graphics. But no. My PC gets lower FPS than it should no matter what the game, on Battlefield I have to run at medium graphics and still only get around 40FPS which drops to 20 on certain maps. Some games wont even launch. Another game that runs lower than it should is H1Z1, people who have supposedly worse PC's than mine run this game at good graphics over 30FPS. I run this game on low graphics at around 20FPS. This is the case with a lot of other games, consistently running a lot worse than they should or are predicted to run. Please, I need desperate help! Why is my PC under performing and running worse than it should do! Help! Thank you.

Do you have your correct drivers, I doubled my FireStrike score after fixing my driver issues.

check what drivers you are missing

i say GPU and mobo drivers are important

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Weel, just keep your drivers up to date. Also, overclocked 4790?

Don't be fooled by the bottom line of my sig, that is just for my travels.

So you're telling me that Gaben is no God? Enough of your foolishness.

My hardware you ask? I'm using a Dell Inspiron 3217 Notebook... With an LG 25UM57.

Did you accidentally plug your monitor into your motherboard I/O instead of your GPU?

BTW, an i7-4790k @ 4.0 GHz is an underclock. Stock it'll go up to 4.4 GHz. If we're talking 4790 the non-K version then it can't be overclocked.

Ahh, well my stock 4790 was only 3.6GHz. Yes I have made sure that my monitor is plugged into my GPU. Do you think it could be anything to do with my old cheapo hard drive? As stupid as it may sound?

You should try taking off a side panel and using a can of compressed air to blow into major spots such as your CPU heatsink, GPU and PSU. You can also replace your thermal compounds on these devices. Check your BIOS settings, too, maybe you are running your PC on very low power. Could be just that the latest driver is crap, though.

Use Display Driver Uninstaller to completely wipe your GPU drivers, then reinstall. We'll go from there.

Make sure you are using the 970 as the main graphics card instead of the built in graphics in the motherboard bios.

Just for reference your OP should say 2 TB of disk space/hard drive/storage etc. "Memory" is usually reserved for RAM. Made me do a double take when I was reading anyway.
