fastest way might be to take out the laptop drive (if its a 2.5" form factor) and connect it to the PC internally to transfer all the files

You could use an external hard drive. It's not the best, but it's a good backup for some important files and gets the job done. They're not usually very expensive.

Don't be fooled by the bottom line of my sig, that is just for my travels.

So you're telling me that Gaben is no God? Enough of your foolishness.

My hardware you ask? I'm using a Dell Inspiron 3217 Notebook... With an LG 25UM57.

Hey there MrWazoo :)

There are a few ways to do that:
- easiest way, as already mentioned, is to remove the drive and simply connect it to your other computer and transfer the data. You may be able to find guidance on how to remove the drive in the laptop's manual.
- You can connect the other drive to the laptop externally (dock station, SATA to USB cable, enclosure, etc.) and thus transfer everything you need.
- You can use external storage drives to transfer the data.
- You can map the folders with the data on the laptop and share them on the network so you can access them from the other computer and thus copy/paste them.
- You can use an online cloud service to transfer the data.
- Using a NAS is also an option (same as an external drive).

Feel free to ask if you happen to have questions :)

This is another way of doing this, though not that popular. :) Here's a guide on how it can be done: http://smallbusiness.chron.com/connect-laptop-pc-via-ethernet-cable-56523.html
You would need a crossover Ethernet cable, though. :)
I'm glad you've found a solution!
