RAID 10 HDD and SSD?

Go to solution Solved by DXMember,

 run a RAID 10 array on 2 1TB hard drives and 2 128/256 SSD's

but how?

to run raid 10 you need at the very least 4 drives of equal capacity

it's two RAID 1's  that are RAID 0'ed

Instead I would get a big nasty external hard drive for backups

I have a pretty Mid tier gaming Pc but am thinking about getting into Youtube (I know classic sob story) but anyway I am really worried about hard drive and SSD failure as I have gone through a hard drive failure before and getting a data recovery was expensive. I was wondering if it was possible to run a RAID 10 array on 2 1TB hard drives and 2 128/256 SSD's (haven't really decided on the exact size), amd then having a small RAID 1 array (with 2 8TB hard drives) for archiving. Is this a functional set-up or will it  just explode in my face, also is it worth it, both in terms of cost and effectiveness (the cost isn't really that much of a problem though)

check out linus's vids on RAID 1,0 ,10, and 5

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

but is it possible to run 2 raid 1's in raid 0?

Yes but you wouldn't mix drive types. You would use 4 HDD's or 4 SSD's, create 2 mirrors then stripe the mirrors which is called RAID 10. Failure rates of SSD's are very low, just mirror 2 then setup a backup to another disk(s) or a NAS. This is better than RAID 10.
