Should i upgrade?

kekerino

Hey guys.

I can upgrade from an 8350 to an 4790k, but should i?

My current motherboard is a very old 990fx-D3, and im afraid of it frying any second. I want to get an MSI Krait SLI edition.

And i think its slightly bottlenecking my 970.

So should i upgrade?

Yeah, Totally.

If you are gaming, i5 4460/6600 is more than enough.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

That is an old mobo. I'd say that if you're 970 is giving you significantly worse performance than you've expects from it then maybe it's time for an upgrade.

I want to future proof it a bit, since games are taking advantage of hyper threads

Exactly - using all 8 cores (threads) a 8350 is faster than i5s. i7s aren't worth. In modern games the difference would be 3-4fps

Please elaborate

JayzTwoCents dumped 500$ to go to a i7 3770K from a 8350 a while back. He then made a video saying it was a mistake and that he had wasted his own money for literally no performance gains

Wouldn't the bottlenecking be even bigger if you upgrade only the cpu ? I mean yes there will be some difference concering fps but no matter how little the price .. why would you do it ?

I meant the 8350 is bottlenecking the 970, not the other way around
