Is an XEON 35450 X2 be any good for newer games around 30fps and higher within the medium settings range or is it better just to get an I5 cpu. Thanks

That CPU was released on 2007.

i5 is wayyyyyyy better!

Go for that.

That CPU is almost the same in spec to a Core 2 Duo E8400. Seeing you have 2 on a dual socket board I presume you would be looking at performance close to a Core 2 Quad Q9650. Assuming you have a decent GPU and a 1080p monitor yes you will be fine gaming at over 30FPS in most titles new and old. What GPU do you have?

Yeah, that should be more than enough. It really comes down to what your comfortable with, if your willing to troubleshoot and put some time into your computer then by all means get the dual xeons, but if you want everything to just work no questions asked then spend a bit more for the new i5.

@dragoncurt

Make sure to follow your post/topics!

What i5 also are you looking at and what is the price gap? If you can get the dual Xeon setup and put more $ into the GPU I would say go with that. Basically give us all the Info you can about this build and what you plan on using it for (what type of games)

He's talking about a DUAL xeon setup, and it happens to be wayyyyyyyy cheaper. Price to performance ratio its much better, you can pick up two 5450s for like $10 each and you get comparable performance to an FX 8320. For $20 thats a steal, screw the i5!

Hi and yes sorry just checked now and also the games like DayZ and battlefield games. How about the new star wars and well it was around £242 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141718547996 without a gpu so might be best to go with building an i5 PC my self.

For those games you are defiantly going to need a discrete GPU to run, might want to check out an APU system if you wan't to keep the price down or you might need to save up more.

Just get a newer i5 cpu if that is an option (I'm assuming it is based on your OP).

IMO if you're a gamer being stuck on an outdated server platform has more drawbacks than it's worth.
