SSD's and Formatting?

DannyRyu

So I was wondering how SSD's erase Data.

Like I know an HDD's Data can be recovered to a point even after it being formatted and what not.

But SSD's (most of em atleast) being NAND Based Flash memory and all how is the Data Recovery affected and is it possible to actually Delete data permanently?

How does this work?
Thanks

In order to erase data permanently from an SSD you have to overwrite it. Because a format only overwrites a tiny bit, you can still recover the data afterwards. In order to do a full erase you must overwrite the portion of the SSD memory that stored the data. However since you can't choose what portions the SSD overwrites, you'll need to completely fill the SSD with new data to make sure the old data is destroyed. There may be a utility that does this, never cared to do more than a format myself.

you need to overwrite the SSD with 0s to erase all traces
