Gaming CPU needed

Go to solution Solved by Prysin,

If I had the money for an i7.. I wouldn't be on these forums .. as a matter of fact if the AMD CPU's weren't so cheap I don't think people would buy them or make stupid threads like this one at all..

well, in your case. the FX 6300 is a good buy. simply because yes it is cheap and will in "worst case" perform like a i3 4130. best case it can get close to a i5 4460

I'm gonna use my pc for gaming 1080p, surfing the internet and listening to music. I have a GTX950, EVGA 500W PSU, 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM...

Should I get a i3-4130 or a FX6300.. OR a i3-4370 or a FX8300/8320E

1150 MBO would be a ASUS H81-Gamer

AM3+ MBO would be a ASUS M5A97 R2.0

Games I'd play: GTA V, CoD, BF, Assasins Creed..

Browsers I'd surf: Chrome

Music I'd listen to ... xD

Are you at all able to stretch out your budget for an i5?

If you can't, consider an i3 6100 and a H1xx board.

AMD at this point in time is not really ideal in terms of CPUs.

i3 all the way.

You're not going for Skylake?

It's cheaper or closer to the price of Haswell.

I'll need to spend like $50 for new RAM then... and skylake ain't really that better that it's worth buying new ram for it

Get the i3-4130 - it beats the FX in most games and has a better upgrade path.

i3 4130 <= 6300

stock vs stock

@berny22

BUY THE FX 6300 UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD AN i5 4460

i3 is a waste of money because the FX will perform as good or better

Some Skylake boards can use DDR3 RAM.

Skylake's the first platform to work with both DDR3 and DDR4 on the same chips.

Really? Can you give me a good 1151 DDR3 MBO to pair a i3-6100 with.. Price <100$

I doubt that you can get a better Skylake board than a similarly priced Haswell board.

Uhh...oh dear.

I looked into it, and the price of the i3 6100 already exceeds your budget.

Is that budget the absolute most you can afford?

Are you planning future cpu upgrades? If not, the FX-6300 is ok for gaming if it's not more expensive than the haswell i3. If you can afford getting a i3-6100, definitely go for it. There are boards which support DDR3L RAM so look out for that.

FX processors are good for gaming/workstation  PC's. Unless you have the budget to go i7.

And an i7 provides no benefits for gaming over an i5 which is already superior than all ancient FX cpus.
