1.I would get the old generation of cpus instead. The new ones are a bit better clockwise. Just a tiny bit but with the actual major difference is the integrated gpu.

 

2.980ti or 390. Whatever your budget allows. 

 

3. Put in 2x8gb ram.

But, will the 970 work in most situations? Will it play just cause 3 ok? Or persay GTAV? Big open world games?

in 1080p sure. Just google benchmarkscores for that card and you'll see.
