CS:GO Help Please...

Go to solution Solved by LokiFire,

Thanks so much for all the help, much appreciated. I just played two comp games back to back, first on mirage then dust II. I aced the last round of the first game (we were up 15-7) with a sawed-off... Second game we went up to 15-2, then they came back to 15-13, before my teammate clutched 1v4 with an autsniper xD

Hey now that's fucking swagger lad... Acing with a Sawed Off haha! Good job man :P

This is ridiculous. To get a competitive rank, you have to win 10 unranked games. Not too bad, right? WRONG. I am not claiming to be the best by a long shot, hoping to be placed at SEM or gN1, but so far I have played 5 games and won 1. The reason? People that are unranked because they haven't played for ages. Other than the game I won, literally every time I play there will be at least 2-3 people on the other team with service medals and expensive skins that pretty much ace every round. Is there any way to avoid these players, or is unranked really as bad as I think it is?

Sorry to say this but the game is accurate at placing you on the first 10 matches, unless you were vs players on their bad days, sometimes people can be placed as high as Legendary Eagle and drop all the way to Mg1.

Nah, there was a sale recently, many people got alternate accounts so it's now shark infested waters there.

The only real way to avoid all the smurfs is playing obscure maps like office and shit.

Maximum rank is LEM after placements.

You can't really avoid it. CS:GO places you in the middle of the ranks at first and after every 2 wins until you got 10 you will get a 24h cooldown and they "Calibrate" your rank and if you suck you get easier opponents.

So I need to get 2 wins first? Fun, especially now I have a 2hr cooldown for shooting a random AWP noscope at round start and hitting a teammate running suicide on T side dust II....

Service medals? i don't really even look at anything like that, some people even new can stomp people who have been playing for years, some people just have what it takes, though not above DMG i would say mostly.

you get a service medal when you reach rank 40, takes months of playing the game.

well, it sucks to be a noob, heheheh. I got my placements in 12 games 10 wins 2 ties

So he was vs players with service medals who are in lower ranks, that is all i can gather from it, and is upset that he lost to them, i mean i know the frustration... but nothing you can do other than go in calm and clear headed and play your best.

yep, that can happen too. Most likely many of them had a rank.

You can also get service medals from the various operations and doing challenges built into them... which are almost always played on casual maps.

So yes, casuals can have service medals.

I started playing CS:GO last year. When I did the 10 calibration matches it put me straight in at silver 1. But in less than 200 hours I got to be MG1 through practice and WarOwl watching.

You can get to MG1 without even knowing how to grenade properly. You just need to develop some moderately sharp game sense and  be good at aiming + spray paterns. Knowing how to buy helps, too.

I lost my rank before (and probably have again) due to not playing in ages. I got my rank back after 1 game and it put me right back where I was before, MG1.

If you haven't been playing CS:GO or any other CS games for a while... Expect to be silver 1 and sit there for a while as you learn the game. Over time you'll see your rank go up but gold nova is easier to move through than silver.

Good luck.

Thanks! I have never played a first person shooter before, which is probably why I am struggling. My actual aim is relatively decent; but I cannot spray well to save my life. Basically, long distance I have a fairly decent change of winning a fight, but close up I have no chance. I also love the grenade element of the game, especially experimenting with flashes and smokes.

Is it a bad thing that my go to buy if my team is buying on CT and my money is short is a Deagle/MAG-7 combo? I find it really works, because generally I can hit those one taps with the Deagle, and then the mag-7 is there to support my pathetic spraying ability.

Deagle requires a lot of luck and skill, it's pattern is random.

The Swag 7 i am fond of, i rarely use it but for a map like Inferno it's a monstrosity that can make the enemy team cry tears... it's very powerful and effective at close range. Dropped a 4K defending A site on my own once just with Swag 7.

If you struggle with spraying, try this custom map: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=213240871

There's a console command you can use on it that shows you where the bullets have hit, use it to learn the spray patterns of weapons like the M4A4, Ak47, MP9, UMP-45. Being good with the AK and M4 is essential for getting to a high rank, they are the standard buy for a team with money.

Good luck.

I have that map, it helps with aim, but spraying, other than just a decent set of ranges? I guess it might. I have also just uncovered a command that, alongside showing bullets, turns off the randomness of the spraying, so every time you spray it shows the exact same pattern, so you don't learn a slightly wrong pattern. I'll get there, eventually.... Thanks anyways.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, deathmatch is your best friend, both for practice and warmup for competitive matches.

More than any other, I have found that my performance in CS:GO was especially effected by my mood. Try to remain calm and if you're doing terribly in deathmatch before a competitive match, perhaps use it for practice only and consider postponing your game.

Finding someone else capable may help, too. But make sure it's someone who has a positive outlook on the game's competitive side. If someone in your game has been especially fun to play with, consider adding them on steam.
