Just built a new Skylake system with a 6600k and don't have enough cash left over for a GPU.

Anyone know how to best optimise the HD 530 graphics? While I save up for a discrete GPU, I'd like to at least try to get the most from what I have. Apparently it can run really wellhttp://www.tomshardw...00k,4252-9.html (please excuse the link to a competitor), but I'm having a terrible time even with CS:GO   :(

I have a Z170M Plus MoBo, 8Gb of RAM and have installed the latest drivers.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this (that don't include "just buy a GPU"  ;) ) are most welcome.

The problem with Integrated graphics is if you want to play games, you have to have at least low-med settings on even the least taxing games out there. I can't speak for that igpu personally but I used to game on a machine that used HD 4600 and I had to turn down the settings on every game to the lowest they could go to get barely playable frame rates.

Oh and don't forget to follow your post

Thanks for the replies.

@ZombieLloyd Yea, I know it's not an ideal situation, but I have my eye on an ASUS Strix 970 (I'm aiming for budget friendly).

This video shows relatively impressive quality and has very similar specs to my system:

Optimise? How do you even optimise an iGPU (or any GPU)? Install drivers and let it run loose.  Then get a new dGPU.

By 'optimise' I mean set up in such a way as to use it to its best advantage, installing the latest drivers would be one way, but AFAIK I have done that.

What's a 'dGPU'?

Discrete graphics card (discrete GPU), some people use that as an abbreviation.

Well you can do 2 things, OC it and optimise settings in the game. Nothing else you can do.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

dGPU - Of course, should have realised that. Thanks.

Cool, thanks for the input. Greetings from Barcelona!

This is relevant and helpful https://gameplay.intel.com/HardwareGames/88191/Intel%C2%AE%20Core%E2%84%A2%20i5-6600K%20Processor%20%286M%20Cache,%20up%20to%203.90%20GHz%29

You can also look up games for CPU's with less powerful iGPU's as yours will obviously be able to run them too.

OC it ( i have no idea about overclocking igpu of i5)

OC memory. Since there are the textures, you Need For Speed. For example my old iGPU i can overclock core, but no effect as main bottleneck is memory speed.

Oh and you can play games on it, like indie games. Kerbal space program is 40% off on steam, and there is Volo Airsport, Fallout NV, Skyrim, ... plenty titles with lesser graphics that are fun

I know how hard it is, as I said, I used to play games on a Dell Studio 1555. I'm now saving up to build an X99 PC for gaming/music creation and I should be able to buy all the parts in July.

Certainly, most of my catalogue is Source engine based, but I doubt that would even Portal would work judging by the stuttering and lag I was getting on the CS:GO menu screen. I also tried Gauntlet (reboot) and that menu screen was like dragging the mouse through treacle!

Yea, I guess I just have to bust out MAME ;)

I found that page when looking for the latest drivers and was very surprised to see Battlefront on there! Pity I'm not a MOBA fan hehe.

Thanks though.
