Display is quite small and it would be hard to work with a 1600x900

It's more easy to transport and 1600x900 is more than usable. Even 1366x768 is good on a 14' screen. My sis has a 1280x1024 work ThinkPad and it's the same pixel density as my Y50

Transportation is not a problem, it doesn't have to be portable. I would like a large screen and 1920x1080

1080p is impossible unless you are willing to spend 800$

Good idea. If you can save up 800$ you might be able to get a Y50. 1080p non-touch models go lower than 850$

One of the T series Laptops from Lenovo is really great.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M
