Star wars movie order?

HectiKCookiE

I've been looking it up for like half an hour and I still have no idea what order the movies go in.

Episode IV:  A New Hope (1977)

Episode V:  The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Episode VI:  Return of the Jedi (1983)

Episode I:  The Phantom Menace (1999)

Episode II:  Attack of the Clones (2002)

Episode III:  Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Episode VII:  The Force Awakens (2015)

this is the order it was released in right, so why does it start a ep 4? can someone please tell me what order to watch it in.

I'd do 4, 1, 2, 5, 3, 6. since there are references to the original trilogy in the new trilogy.

Episode III:  Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Episode VII:  The Force Awakens (2015)

this is the order it was released in right, so why does it start a ep 4? can someone please tell me what order to watch it in.

So, the reason they're in that order is that episodes 4-6 weren't originally called episodes 4-6. They were the original three that were released in the '70s and '80s. In the late '90s and up until 2005, George Lucas decided to make a trilogy of prequels that took place about 30-20 years before the events of the original Star Wars movie- which is now called Episode IV: A New Hope.

I believe I am qualified to recommend a viewing order for you, as I have experimented on several new viewers with different viewing orders to see how they would like it.

If you are a mature viewer, it is safe to assume that you will not enjoy episode I. Furthermore, the prequels were designed to accompany the original trilogy, and thus, you should probably watch them afterwards.

I would recommend that you skip The Phantom Menace, but make sure you read this (below) after you've watched episodes 4-6.

Anakin and Padme met when he was a slave on Tatooine. He was 'adopted' by Obi-Wan's master, but was forced to leave his mother behind, who was still a slave and could not be freed. Also watch the last lightsaber battle in Episode I, because it's awesome and you learn what happens to Obi-Wan's master.

The rest of episode I is horse-shit.

I would recommend the following order.

  • Episode IV:  A New Hope (1977)
  • Episode V:  The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
  • Episode VI:  Return of the Jedi (1983)
  • Episode II:  Attack of the Clones (2002)
  • Episode III:  Revenge of the Sith (2005)
  • Episode VII:  The Force Awakens (2015)

Yoda is 900 or so years old by the time his last scene takes place in the original movies.
