Blue Yeti Issues

Go to solution Solved by Philosobyte,

My cardioid Samson Meteor microphone set to 10% and located inside my piano, can pick up sound from the fish tank in the next room behind the microphone. Heck, I never even notice the fish tank noise in real life.  So no, your microphone isn't defective. It's just that cardioid microphones are not directional enough.

I don't think you can do anything to get rid of the unwanted noise except for sound absorption foam, or getting a dynamic microphone or shotgun mic.

First of all.

1. I do have it set to cardioid

2. The gain is at 25% the lowest it can go while still picking up my voice

3. I have a pop filter

4. It's the Blackout Edition

5. It's being hung on a after market overhead stand

6. The mic is facing the correct direction

7. I'm speaking to the front not the top

8. I'm using Audacity

It picks up me just fine, but it also picks up my dad talking 3 rooms down just fine as well. Is my mic defective?

Bad isolation by the...sound of it

tumblr_np6ccabqBU1ti2zrho1_500.jpg

Try adding sound dampening elements into your recording room

I own a fan thats the only dampening I have.

I just want to clarify that the oversensitivity is the issue.

A fan is not dampening, foam, a bed, a bean bag, insulation, etc.

Those all absorb the sound around your room so it only picks up your voice

A fan just adds more noise

Yeah m8, I'm out of luck there. I just wanted to make sure my mic wasn't defective.

that's what a condenser mic does...

pick up all sounds possible

if you only want it to pick up your voice you need to use a shotgun mic, lapel mic, headset mic, or move your yeti close to your mouth and turn the gain down even more

try making your mic volume in windows sound settings lower and then having the yeti higher

I suppose I should of added that in my original post as well. I read a lot of threads on this subject and in my test I also tried that. I'm just gunna give up, my viewers can deal with background voices. Or I'll just record when no ones home.
