Hey guys

Have a question about my RAM usage. I've been watching linus' videos and other stuff and think I know enough about RAM to get by with the basics... but I can't answer my current problem.

In this screenshot attached below, my system shows 4.19GB total RAM usage.

The problem is, it's stating basically 90% RAM usage which wouldn't right considering the 4GB usage since I have 8GB of RAM.

My Performance tab shows around 7GB usage which WOULD fit the 90% story, except I can't see anything that's using the extra ~3GB compared to my 4GB number..

I understand that the more ram used, the better, but I'm looking at all my processes and the entire total RAM use for my user and it's basically at half, yet my percentage is showing 90% and my system is showing the obvious signs of max RAM usage, especially ingame.

I also don't think 100% disk usage when it's only processing like 7MB is a good sign.

I've had a bit of a mess around with my system and there seems to be a constant "ghost" 1.7-2GB RAM usage that isn't showing up anywhere.

I also checked my "commit" vs "working" RAM, and the gap is smaller, about 500MB-1GB difference. But from what I understand, the commit includes ram ready for re-writing, whereas working is what's actually required and being used at that moment. Even if my system commit RAM is at 6GB it shouldn't slow me down at all?

Am I missing something?

4.19GB is the ram your user account is using

this does not include system resources

Okay, got a couple questions. First of all, what size is your Page File? Secondly, do you have a Samsung SSD? If so, do you have their Samsung Magician software installed?

Well, you have Fallout running, so...

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB STRIX OC | BitFenix Prodigy (Black/Red) | XFX PRO Black Edition 850W

Paged pool 400MB, non-paged 250MB

I have a samsung HDD, I don't have an SSD.

Click on the details tab next to users, and that shows you all the processes that are running instead of just the ones running as your user account.

When in doubt, re-format.

That's even more confusing because that's showing 4.5GB usage while my user "in use" is 3.1GB and performance "in use" is 6.2GB
