used cpus
i have fm2 mobo.. so im buying new mobo anyways. my friend was giving me some shit because i wanted to buy new cpu, he said old used would be better and cheaper. i dont really want a old used cpu from someone who has been using it with shitty oc 1.7vcore voltage or some shit like that, why not get new one and be sure that the cpu is going to work? im gonna go with new one, i want to know where my cpu is comeing from, and i want to know that i can use it for many years without the fear of it breaking.
If you buy a CPU second-hand from a reputable seller who tests it and posts voltages it is much less risky than buying a board second hand. CPU's, especially those of the locked variety, can easily last 10+years.
Boards are almost always prone to some type of failure outside of 3 years (warranties are indicative of the quality you are buying), not saying that you can't find them, but your chances of something being wrong with the board are magnitudes higher than getting a bunk CPU (lots of individual components can fail, as opposed to a CPU die). This is why you see old boards at such monumental markups, finding a good one is rare.
If you're buying both components stick with new and save yourself the potential headaches.
