So I completed witcher 3 and was wondering if 2 was any good ?

All three of the Witcher games are fantastic.

Yes. It would've been more ideal to play the earlier Witcher titles before the 3rd though.

 

The 1st Witcher title may be a bit hard to get into, but i 100% recommend giving Witcher 2 a playthrough. 

And here's an incentive: you get to shag elf chicks, and succubi. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Depending on your story choices though.

How much of the total story do you understand just by playing the 3rd game ? (I guess not alot)... Its one of those games where you need to play 1,2,3 to get the full story

I played Witcher 2 before 3, and I thought it was fantastic, so I say play it! It is what made me want to get the rest of the titles (and I did).

 

Also if you like the series, pick up the books (fan translations are very accurate). They tell you a lot about the world, characters etc etc.

It's not so bad if you just play the 3rd. It fills the gap in the story quite nicely. But I recommend playing 1 and 2 aswell (I loved the story in Assassins of Kings even more than in Wild Hunt) . The combat in Witcher 1 and 2 feels sluggish and a little outdated now though. But that is a sign of a series that has gradually been improving.

 

The combat in the W1 is very dated but I played it for the story. I agree you dont get the full story from the 3rd game alone, answering questions to fill in the gaps doesn't do it justice.

witcher 2 was p good, combat at medium was a bit harder i think.

I personally dont like playing older games after playing the newer version (personal preference).

But witcher 2 was a fun game to play (i dont think its good as 3... which is a good thing i guess =p) but still fun. Great fighting/story/characters and is a fun game and on a sale can pick it up for super cheap! 

 

If you wanna play other wicher games play 2 for sure, watch a video on 1 as i think that is outdated and i wasnt a fan of the combat..

Looking back at it, 2 was awful.  It was extremely linear, it often brought you down corridors that made camera work dumb, the branching storyline was cool, but it created two problems.  It made it so that you could only get the full experience of the game by literally playing it twice, and what you did on your first playthrough would heavily influence the things you do on your second, big no no, and it made the overarching story of the game much weaker.  The RPG mechanics were shallow at best, not helped by a very shallow equipment system and very, very clunky sign usage, the best sign by far was Quen, all the others were very hard to use in most situations.  They also didn't have a clear direction in combat, it wasn't as fluid and quick as an Arkham system, in fact it was downright clumsy, but it wasn't as meaty and satisfying as Dark Souls.  There's so much wrong with that game on top of it's story being ridiculously bad compared to Witcher 3.

 

If anything, SuperBunnyHop was right.  Witcher 1, while weird, managed to capture the feeling of being a witcher and being in that world.  Witcher 2's garbage mechanics along with it's lackluster story really did not help it's case, it's deviation from making a bunch of references to book characters in an attempt to make it less confusing to people who haven't read them backfired on them.
