Need help picking new GPU

Hello everyone, long time lurker and LTT fan but new poster,  I currently have a 1080p 60hz monitor and a gtx 680 ref. card and 3770k i7 Oc'ed to 4.2gz. I know i can get more but just havent.

 

I'm looking to upgrade the monitor/GPU together. I'm leaning towards 1440p with the possibility of also 144hz. (if you want to rec. monitors too that would be nice but mainly focusing on the gpu.)

 

I prefer the green side but i know around the $350 range the 390 seems to be the fav. But im leaning towards the $500-650 price range. I just don't want to pay more than I need too.

 

The games I play the most of are the blizzard titles, Lol, Dayz(and all the clones), BF4 (and future releases) farcry, elderS/fallout. This is in order, so mostly i play easy to medium to run games.

 

above 60fps and very-high.ultra are paramount here. Also exact model of gpu would be helpful too because I'm raking my brain on little things like evga/gigabyte and then within those the 80 different sub-types (classified/FTW/g1...etc)

Sapphire R9 Fury should be 500$ and offer great performance and be enough for 1440p 60fps easily

Just wondering why the AMD and no watercooling on the gpu. I have an AIO on the cpu tho

The Fury is the best for $500, and if you want to spend less get a 390X.

 

Sapphire makes the best coolers, btw.

Fury costs 30$ more than a 980 and performs 10% better

Fury X is 50-80$ cheaper than a 980 TI and performs 5% worse and has an AiO

Well before the gtx 680 I had multiple amd cards throughout the HD-xxxx generations and always had some sort of issue, sucky performance, driver issues galore etc. then I got this 680 and zero problems besides a little issue on the release of D3 that was a simple setting fix in the control panel

2009-2010 is where these horror stories are from - from 2012 onward it's mostly great with the last 2 years being flawless.

980 Ti - 970 is gimped, 960 is bottlenecked by the 128-bit bus, 980 is overpriced for what it is - 980 Ti is the only one that makes sense - that and the 750 TI

Around $350 you should get an R9 390, no question about it. You'll definitely have to drop settings in Fallout 4 and Far Cry 4 at 1440p, but it's easily a better gpu than the GTX 970 at 1440p.
