i5-3570 (non k) vs g3258 for modded minecraft server

i have both lying around in my home and i wanna get my modded minecraft server going again. the i5-3570 will be run at stock since its not overclockable. the g3258 will be run at between 3.5-4ghz depending on the server load.

i can understand that the i5 will be better since it has 4 cores instead of 2. but maybe it doesnt matter? idk.

anyhow, how much of a difference will it be between them for the modded minecraft server (it will run some larger ftb/atlauncher etc pack)? which should i use? the rest of the computer will be the same for both builds.

4 core vs 2 core...should be pretty clear who wins

i dont know. i know java isnt the best for multicore usage. thats why im asking.

and i wanna know how much of a difference it makes.

because what you said basicly is more cores=better in all cases

well, it still doesnt explain how much better it is. because id rather use that cpu for something better than a server if its just 10% better

i think the 3570 wins on most occasions, although I cant find anything specific for minecraft and a non 3570k

I can't say how much better it is from the top of my head. Go and check some benchmarks but also iirc minecraft isn't really a good optimised game

to the both of you, i know of gaming performances. but i assume its completely different for hosting a server with them

A server doesn't really need a powerful cpu if you dont have hundread or thousands of player on it

Actually a mc-server does require a lot of horse power. Espacially a modded one. (But it can't hurt to take a look at some performance mods like Fastcraft). I would go for the i5.

just checked up some further and there seems to be some thought put behind my concerns.

java only utilises one core, but plugins might use the rest of the cores/threads. so a higher overclocked and better cache might be better:

i might aswell try with both i assume
