Can't tell if my CPU is dead or not...

Hey guys!

Recently posted about a spill I had happen on my PC, and I've replaced all parts that I can test given my current supplies. Running a new power supply, and a new motherboard,

Upon atempted boot up, it started up for like 5 seconds before promptly shutting down. Now it loops these quick turn ons and turn offs until I kill the power on the PSU. It doesn't do 5 second start ups now, only quick one second ones.

I disconnected basically everything and have my rig barebones on the motherboard box with a single ram dim inserted, CPU in (with heat sink) and the power supply powering the CPU and board.

Still does this.

I did ALL the troubleshooting online, but can't find anyone mentioning how a computer behaves when the Motherboard shorts, but is replaced.

Everyone says it's the PSU or the MOBA, but I've replaced both.

So is it the processor?

Thanks in advance for any help. This has been an absolute living hell.

The P8P67 does not natively support the 3770k unless it has BIOS update 3207 applied. Have you confirmed that was done?

The board is brand new :o How can I perform the BIOS update if the rig won't boot?

Pretty sure the P8P67 is long before BIOS Flashback, so you'll need an earlier CPU like a Celeron G530T. You can check this list here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8P67/HelpDesk_CPU

Is BIOS version 0807 the first version of the BIOS? I can't see anything lower tbh

0804 appears to be initial release version.

EDIT: I mean 0804!

Check section 3 page 37 of your manual (if you've got it) and there's an update procedure using the motherboard cd and a flash drive. Now I can't find any specific references, but this is to be used if the BIOS is corrupted, which would suggest you can do an update that way without needing a supported CPU. Maybe. It's hard to say, it's been a long time since I had my P8P67, if I still had it I'd try it for you.

How do I enter the BIOS if the computer won't fully boot up?

Also, it doesn't have a built in DVI port, so I'd be using my graphics card, which makes things seem a little more complex than a direct connection off the board itself,

Yeah that's why I said the 'maybe'. It's likely you'll need to beg, borrow or buy an older Sandy Bridge CPU to perform your update, then you'll be able to use your 3770k.

And using the onboard or using the GPU won't make a difference for entering the BIOS or performing the update.
