True. I just need something to get started. It's been too long since I bought a gpu, so I don't even know which model fits where in the heirarchy. I guess I really just want a FPS per dollar chart that I can quickly glance at.

Try techpowerup and check any of their recent graphics card reviews.

Between Nvidia and AMD, it really comes down to what the current line-up is, and the upcoming release schedule is like for both manufacturers. Historically, there's been a lot of leap-frogging between the two companies, and whichever one is best in one generation is not guaranteed to also be the best in the generation that immediately follows. And even within one generation, a card revision can move the underdog into the position as having the best offering.

Drivers-wise, it seems to me that more people complain about AMD drivers than Nvidia drivers, but I've been using AMD's drivers for the last many years, and not run into an issue.

When new graphics hardware releases from Nvidia next year, I intend to wait a couple of months, and then see what's up with AMD. And then if Nvidia has a great mid-tier card out, and isn't speculated to be about to be check-mated by AMD, I'll probably buy a Pascal card, which I hope will last me at a few years while running everything maxed out at 1920x1200.

I really don't understand why these questions still pop up from time to time.

*unzips*

AMD VS Nvidia = A lost mail man that will do whatever it takes to give you your mail... despite being a few days late... and never realizing that the house that the mail is for was pretty much the first house he started from VS A well dressed, well groomed, well cleaned, and cologned-up donger that just wiggles itself and is the type of guy that makes after-parties a nightmare. Basically its: An idiot that tries VS a jerk that ruins every after-party. Pick your poison.
