Currently it's set to system controlled but I have 32gb ram and page file eats 32gb off of my SSD. Can I reduce paging file to 16384 (half) without system instability issues / app crashes or should I let windows control it?

The page file is used to offload files if the ram is full, to suspend programs, and for use with hibernation. It can be made smaller if you want to but you may see performance issues and you may not be able to hibernate your PC.

But some programs rely on it, no?

not really. Windows(or OS of Choice) manages the paging to disk, applications just ask for memory, and windows does the shuffling bettween disk and ram as needed.

Depending on what you do you could reduce or remove the pagefile from the c:\. If you running a large database or a few VM's i'd keep the pagefile as they can cause you to run out of system resources quite quickly.

then a 3072MB pagefile will dramatically revive some space on the SSD.

i've been running pagefile-less for years and with no ill effects in gaming or

productivity. win7 and 16GB RAM w/SSD.

Most games run on RAM not pagefile so 8gb ram n ssd should pretty much cover everything
