Which GPU for £550 budget.

Unslain_Gamer

Basically guys, I have £550 pounds to spend on a gpu.

RIG:

i7 4790k

z97 msi gaming 5

8gb 1866mhz hyperx fury ram

noctua nh u14s

240gb ssd

1tb hdd

msi gtx 970 = £270

msi gtx 980 = £400

msi gtx 980ti £530

currently have a 1080p 60hertz monitor but i am considering a 1440p monitor with a higher refresh rate later down the line. But the main focus is on 1080p gaming on ultra with AA. Want to stay with nvidia cards. Ideally a stable framerate in most scenarios 60+fps under ultra + light to med AA

Which card should i go with. The gtx980 has 4gb VRAM, 980ti has 6gb, whether i'd need the extra 2gb in any situation for the next few years i don't know. IS it a matter of getting the best card i can afford or getting a 980 and having some spare money left over. If i can help it, avoiding the 970, only due to the 512mb loss in VRAM and slightly degraded performance.

I've read for 1080p and 1440p the 980 should be all the power i could possibly need.

Any suggestions?

Another question:

With pascal coming next year, any idea on what sort of price range they may be release at, and would it be worth getting a 970 and saving for pascal? (only if they are sub £700) or given still getting a 980 and keep an eye on pascal.

If you're only playing at 1080p I wouldn't recommend any of those cards you mentioned.

The 980Ti is too powerful and you would waste quite a bit of money.

I would get a R9 390 or R9 390X, cause these cards have a better price to performance ratio. The 390X is a little slower than the GTX 980, but therefor it isn't nearly as expensive.

Another option is a R9 Fury. But that would be something you would have to look into. It should perform better than a 980, but worse than a 980 Ti.

If you're sure to get a 1440p monitor in the future, then I really recommend you get a 980Ti now. That will safe you money in the long run and it's a great card for 1440p.

For 1440p the 980 Is more than enough, however, I would go with the 980Ti :P

Sadly it isn't. I mean, every game is playable at 60FPS, but not at max settings.

If you decide to not spend as much as you can you should get the R9 Fury, it's a good in-between for the 980 and 980Ti, and only costs £9 more than the 980.

It also depends on what resolution you want to play on 390 for 1080p, Fury for 1440p and 980Ti  for 4K.

So looking at a 1080p view for now, since it's more realistic for next 3-6 months, and i want to ideally stick with nvidia. would you say 980? Don't plan on the 1440p monitor and higher herts until mid 2016
