Safest VPN to use?

Hello guys,

 

So I am now in university and I just recently found out that my network activity is being monitored and recorded. So for the sake of me and my room mates, we want a VPN. However after some googing I found that a large amount of them are fake or steal data. So what is a good cheap VPN to use? Thanks.
