Hello Everyone,

I just bought Just Cause 3 on steam and I'm having some performance issues. I realize the game just came out and it will properly get performance updates later down the road anyway.

I'm just wondering if I increase my ram from (1x) 4gb to (2x) 8gb will there be an improvement in performance because I'm currently running the game in 1920x1200 with ALL the settings turned down (including anti-aliasing and Anisotropic filtering turned off) and I'm getting around 30fps which I'm ok with but then it suddenly drops down to 1-5 and starts to studder. At the moment the GPU and CPU usage sits around 50-60% and the ram is at a constant 90% usage. BTW I went crazy with steam sales and bought Watch Dogs, GTA V, Fallout 4, Tomb Raider 2013, Hitman Absolution, Wolfenstein - The New Order, Sniper Elite 3, Black Mesa, Metro last light and 2033 and Gary's Mod. All these games run smoothly without anyway stuttering or frame drops at high to ultra settings with anti-aliasing and Anisotropic filtering turned on. I think Just Cause 3 must just be a heavy ram user. And I run two monitors at all times with one playing light games and another running a video. But when I disconnected the second one to test it there was no increase in performance.

Do you guys think I need to  buy myself more ram or is it just a problem with Just Cause 3?

My System Specs are:

- Intel Core i5 3470

- Nividia GTX 950

- One stick of 4gb 1333 ram (Don't know manufacturer)

- 3tb game boot WD green hdd

- Main Display - Benq V400W

- Second Display - Samsung 2243bw

Thankyou and have a good day,

TheOneWhoKnocks.

I would 100% say its your RAM.

Gotta remember - GAME IS NEW, and does not have many updates yet.....Will need updates to properly judge performance...

Later on in THIS video (he uses a 750Ti first, then a 950 later in the vid)

You should be at a 35-45fps mark, < i3+950, and your CPU is better. But Ram is less/slower.

Later in the video he is using a 950.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I cannot play for more than five minutes without crashing. I am getting around 40-60 fps and it will stutter and crash. I just hit a new record of 2:27 for crash time. I know they said crashes and explosions, but I didn't think they'd take it literally.

I can see it now....

Thanks for the snappy response (I accidentally closed chrome and came back 20 seconds later and you had already responded :)

I think I'm going to buy more ram soon so that's good that I know it's the main problem with my setup. The only problem is that I can only get 1333 ram cause I have a crappy motherboard, do you think that is going to be another problem?

While slower memory may impact performance a small degree, its not that bad.. Faster mem speeds only really take effect when your CPU is maxing out.

As long as your running 8gb, thats the defining factor.

  • 2 weeks later...

If price isn't a problem, and $60 isn't much to you... I would reccomend just go ahead and get 16GB of RAM. Honestly that is just to play it on the safe side, incase you run into something that needs more then 8GB of RAM. (however 8GB is the reccomended for most things)

GPU: XFX RX 7900 XTX

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
